Established more than 100 years ago, the DAR Library has amassed a large collection of genealogical and historical publications. The Library contains more than 150,000 volumes in its book collection including numerous family genealogies and local histories. The Library’s holdings also include unique materials that are available only in this location. These include a collection of approximately 15,000 volumes of Genealogical Records Committee (GRC) materials including Bible and cemetery records collected and transcribed by DAR members over the decades. Although the DAR is developing an “all name” index to these records, many are currently unindexed and require time and perseverance to research. The DAR Library’s book collection is supplemented by the holdings of the Seimes Microfilm Center. SEIMES MICROFILM CENTER The DAR Library’s holdings also include the Seimes Microfilm collection. The collection holds many invaluable resources, including copies of the application papers showing the lineages of DAR members to their Revolutionary War patriot ancestors. The holdings also include microfilmed copies of many colonial, state, county, and township documents such as land, tax, probate and vital records. The Seimes Microfilm collection also includes copies of invaluable manuscripts such as the vast Draper Manuscript Collection concerning early Kentucky history, the Reverend Joseph Brown Turner Collection of genealogical materials on Delmarva Peninsula families, and the Barbour Collection of early Connecticut vital records. |
