MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MARYLAND
Montgomery County was established in 1776 from its parent county, Frederick County.  Land records and marriage records are available from the early days of the county.   Although some documents are available at the county courthouse, many have been transferred to the Maryland State Archives in Annapolis. 

MONTGOMERY COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY
The Historical Society’s Jane C. Sween Library holds a large collection of materials on the County’s history, including over 3,500 books, as well as a vast collection of maps, newspapers, church, and cemetery records.  The Library’s holdings also include many files of genealogical materials by family surname.  Records of county businesses and organizations are also included in the collection. 


FREDERICK COUNTY, MARYLAND
Frederick County was established in 1748 from its parent county, Prince George's County.  Probate and land records are available from the earliest days of the county, as well as early marriage records.   Although some documents are available at the county courthouse, many have been transferred to the Maryland State Archives in Annapolis. 

HISTORICAL SOCIETY OF FREDERICK COUNTY
The Historical Society’s library holdings include a wide variety of materials such as indexes to land and marriage records, newspaper abstracts, church and cemetery records, and maps.  The collection also includes many city directories from 1859, as well as family genealogies and local histories. 

Also included in the library’s holdings are published records from Frederick’s parent county, Prince George’s County, and from neighboring counties that were formed from Frederick County land (Montgomery, Allegany, Garrett, and Carroll Counties.)
